​Dr. Casper Schalkwijk is professor of Experimental Internal Medicine at the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML) of Maastricht University Medical Center. He studied chemistry at University Utrecht and graduated in biochemistry, obtaining his PhD from the same university in 1992. His post-graduate training was in endothelial cell biology. He was appointed head of the Laboratory for Metabolism and Vascular Medicine at the Department of Internal Medicine in Maastricht University in 2005, and became Professor of Experimental Internal Medicine in 2011. His main research interests are obesity, insulin resistance, vascular complications and endothelial function.
