Dr. von Maltzahn is currently a Junior group leader at the Fritz-Lipmann Institute (FLI) in Jena. She received her PhD from the University of Bonn in Germany and did postdoctoral work at the University of Bonn and the Sprott Centre for Stem Cell Research in Canada. In 2013 she was admitted into the Emmy Noether programme of the German Research Foundation which gives exceptionally qualified early career researchers the opportunity to establish a Junior group. Her research is focussed on investigating the effects of aging on satellite cells with the aim of understanding why the regenerative potential of muscles decreases with age. This could potentially lead to new treatments for sarcopenia.
